Just Sex: sexual health, wellness event returns

Just Sex

Just Sex

Just Sex is an idea emanating from the annual Women's Etiquette Brunch event and was first held in November 2018.

While the consensus could be that Batswana are conservative people who cannot or choose not to speak openly about sex, this event has proved to be a highly engaging and interactive session, at which attendees have spoken of their experiences and openly shared their struggles and opinions.

The organisers have managed to create a safe space where conversation flourishes and solutions are realised. This year’s topics will include:

• Sexology—Dr Elna Rudolph is our resident sexologist and over the years has comfortably taken Batswana through a series of discussions including pleasure, painful sex, eroticism, intimacy, and how anything less than 72 thrusts by gents, is Premature Ejaculation.

• Navigating relationships—Professor Lucky Odirile, whom some would have seen on TV, always with the most insightful nuggets on strengthening relationships and now to facilitate this, premised on the event theme.

•Fertility/infertility/men's health—Dr Vincent Molelekwa runs a facility clinic where they restore hope and assist many Batswana with a myriad of issues.

• My Story (Endometrioses)—Dudu Laone Monkge has previously been part of the audience at a previous Just Sex event and can attest that it is a great platform for awareness, acquiring knowledge, and asking questions while engaging with speakers. This year she joins the speakers to shed light on her story and be a beacon for many who might be struggling in silence.

The event consistently aims for execution in November to commemorate it being the month of men's health coined Movember, whilst coinciding with the upcoming date of December 1 which is World AIDS Day. "Our mandate is to use our event to give a continuum to the sexual health and wellness conversation and as an awareness tool.

This helps to activate, gear, and mitigate where important messages easily get lost in the excitement of year-end festivities and the clutter of the busy season. The idea is to carry this message of sexual health and wellness forward annually under the event. After this event, we have plans to roll out different platforms for interaction and content engagement," organiser Michelle Phetlhe explained.

She added: "It is also an exciting second-year partnership with Durex! This one in particular is set apart and makes the world of sense, seeing as the Durex brand is very intentional in applying itself to sharing product knowledge and education around sexual health.

Durex is committed to promoting responsible sex and reproductive healthcare and raising awareness of the safer sex message worldwide through the development and support of sexual health initiatives. Staying in step with our creed of offering experiential eventing solutions, this year, ESTeRES balances out the speaker lineup, ensuring guests thoroughly benefit from the holistic approach."
