Fashion talents win Mr Price internship

Three very talented fashion designers from Botswana and South Africa have secured themselves an internship with Mr Price Group that would be taking place in Durban, South Africa.

They include Thando Piliso from South Africa, Lukundo Sipemba whose brand is Bantu Gold from Botswana and Tumie Mohoasa of Nguo also from Botswana. Bantu Gold was the first fashion house to kick start the show.

Their showcase was breathtaking and there could not have been a better way to ignite the mood than through their performance. One of the members sang beautiful melodies as models walked down the ramp.

His gorgeous outfits were a blend of denim and African print. The designs comprised of clothes and beautiful bags. Piliso and Nguo also showcased unique and breathtaking outfits. Other designers that showcased stunning outfits include Les Wer X-Clusives, Black Excellence, Tanzatia whose designs were made of different colourful German print materials, JrTPh from South Africa and Lenita Fashions.

The show brought together upcoming and established fashion designers from different countries. It also gave aspiring super models a chance to showcase in a fashion show of such magnitude. There was also a parade where different designers were given a chance to design and dress local socialites. All had to dress them in pink collaborating with the breast cancer awareness month.

The event brought fashion fanatics from different walks of life together under one roof. It also attracted a number of international fashion lovers who came to witness local fashion talent. Everyone dressed to impress at the event.

This year was its eighth edition and was celebrating the breast cancer awareness month with a touch of pink. Its theme was Fashion Frontiers. When addressing the audience, the Minister of Labour and Home Affairs Anna Mokgethi said the event celebrated Africa’s fashion and lifestyle movement that brought together more than 15 fashion designers and 40 models from across the continent.

She explained that this year’s theme, “Fashion Frontiers”, aims to highlight on to causes that matter and also causes that affect our fashion community “This occasion is indeed a momentous one as it came at a time where the after effects of COVID-19 pandemic left many jobless, thus causing a lot of future uncertainties. This is the rightful time to develop robust strategies for sustained livelihoods and not only focus on white-collar jobs. Government continues to support the creative sector to ensure that artists can sustain themselves using their talents.

The fashion industry has grown in leaps and bounds over the years and continues to grow with fashion shows organised by Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sports and Culture and others such as Fashion Without Borders.

To the organisers I say, you have done an excellent job in putting together this auspicious event,” she said. She pointed out that the industry employed a lot of young creative such as models, designers, makeup artists as well as everyone involved in the production process. Mokgethi added that as the industry, so will be an increase in the creation of more opportunities.

She encouraged everyone to place themselves strategically in order to benefit in that. Some of the elite faces seen at the event include Kagiso Sento, SA fine artist Rasta, Miss World 2010 first runner-up Emma Wareus, the reigning Miss Botswana queen Palesa Molefe and Mrs Botswana queen Boipelo Erasmus.
