The games returned after a two-year hiatus since they were put on halt by the COVID-19 pandemic.

This time around they were divided into brackets, with Bracket B games taking place over the past weekend at the UB grounds.

The Bracket B games constituted of teams from local institutions in Gaborone only including UB, IDM South, and Boitekanelo College. While the Bracket A games were also taking place at Palapye at BIUST with institutions like BIUST, IDM north, Baisago North, and BAC North.

Volleyball boys from UB started their BOTESSA games against IDM South on the day.

UB came into the game as the most likely team to win as the team has been one of the most dominant teams in the competitions dating from way back.

They did not disappoint and defeated IDM.

When the first set took off, UB took the game to IDM and mounted pressure. IDM were wasteful in the first set and struggled to find their rhythm with their setter failing to find his own attackers.

UB always capitalised on the silly mistakes made by IDM and went on to win the first set by 25 balls to 11. In the second set, IDM seemed to have found its rhythm when they converted one of their attackers into a setter and took the first setter out as he could not live up to the task.

In the first nine balls of the second set, UB could not open a big margin like in the first set with the two teams standing at 5-4 respectively. UB started to gain its momentum in the game and went on to win the second set by 25 balls to 13.

The third set was a do or die for IDM if they wanted to remain in the game. They started the game well and applied pressure for the first time in the game with IDM leading UB by 13 balls to 10.

But that was not enough for IDM to cause panic on the opposition as UB continued to prove its resilience. UB went on to reclaim the lead by 20 balls to 14. UB did not slack down and made sure that IDM did not earn many points until the end of the set.

UB went on to win the third set by 25 balls to 17. The game ended with UB winning all the sets hence winning the game by 3-0. In other games UB boys’ basketball team won its game against IDM by 105 goals to 23 while the ladies team won by 60 to 2.

The BOTESSA games are set to continue next weekend.
