Nyalala suffers delusions of grandeur—Kgafela

Nyalala recently hosted Heritage Day whereupon he dismissed Kgafela as the rightful leader in Moruleng, South Africa.

Through his spokesperson Phalafala Maname, Kgafela II is unfazed by the claims Nyalala made. “September 24 is a public holiday for all South Africans to celebrate culture in their own ways. Nyalala and his people also have a right to celebrate as they wish.

But it does not make Nyalala a Kgosi. He was just a steward and calling him a Kgosi was just to respect Bogosi because he was doing his job on behalf of the Kgosi. Everybody knows he was appointed to serve by Kgosi Linchwe,” he said.

Maname said there is only one Bakgatla Kgosikgolo that being Kgafela II. He said there is no dispute about who the Bakgatla Kgosi is, stating that they celebrated Heritage Day with ‘Kgabo’ who was draped in leopard skin in Sefikile without any problems. "The only problem in Moruleng is that Nyalala has done a lot of damage.

There have been a lot of cases of maladministration and misappropriation of funds in the properties of Bakgatla ba Kgafela. There was a lot of looting under his leadership and he refuses to account to his master, Kgosi Kgafela. That by him is disrespectful. "We cannot entertain this kind of behaviour. Kgabo has no time for these antics.

He is a man of honour and integrity. He respects himself and also respects other people. We cannot continue exchanging with him. The Commission has heard our case and the findings are currently being implemented. Kgafela is Kgosikgolo of Bakgatla in both South Africa and Botswana. He has appointed Ramono Pilane in Moruleng and Kgosi Bana Sekai in Mochudi,” Maname said.

He further said there is no problem with Bogosi, but it is the administration as Nyalala refuses to vacate office. “Nyalala is forcefully still in office alongside his people. They are busy looting from Morafe as the accounts are still held by them.

He still uses Morafe resources. Government is dragging its feet to bring to an end these criminal activities. We are taking things at our own pace because we respect the rule of law,” he said.

Maname said they are not just sitting back stating that there are certain developments following the 2020 court order, which ruled that Nyalala should hand over to Ramono but was never implemented. “Nyalala took up the matter to court challenging recommendations that he is not Kgosi. The case will be heard on October 28. He will not succeed in the case.

His father was never a Kgosi, not even his grandfather. We all know Kgosi Linchwe was Bakgatla Kgosi, and so was his father. The Bogosi lineage is clear and nobody can claim Bogosi that rightfully belongs to Kgafela.

The same goes for a certain Tiny Motshegwe who also claims to be the rightful Kgosi. These people are just trying to confuse the people and they will not succeed. We are busy with more serious things,” he said.

Maname said amongst other things Kgafela is busy with ensuring that Kgatleng becomes independent of Botswana. He said this was because there are unresolved issues between the government and Bakgatla. Kgafela decries that government took the Kgatleng land from his tribe unprocedurally.
