Newly elected FRAFA chairperson promises accountability

The former TAFIC chairperson was elected the leader of the controversy ridden region along with other members of his lobby group. Motaung’s victory was not an easy one as he had to shrug off attempts to prevent him from contesting.
He was initially vetted out of the candidate list by the Botswana Football Association's (BFA) electoral board. He then appealed the decision and succeeded. FRAFA is under the auspices of the BFA and is among the biggest regions in the country.
Its elective assembly over the weekend attracted close to 100 delegates. “I promise that under my leadership all the tenets of good governance will be adhered to. I believe in a leadership style that is anchored by accountability and truthfulness,” Motaung said.
He added that among the key goals of his committee will be to fix all the challenges that the teams have been complaining about. Most notably teams have often complained about maladministration and misuse of funds by some of those who ascend to the leadership of the regional committee. “We will not purge those who were perceived to be against us. We will work with them wholeheartedly.
The most important thing is to take the region forward,” Motaung said in his welcome speech. The newly elected chairperson added that one of the key priorities of his leadership will be to find sponsors for various leagues under the region.
Almost all the leagues under FRAFA have been operating without solid sponsors. “I know a lot has been said about us but I promise that we will have an open-door policy. If you believe that we are not doing something properly or deviating from our core mandate, you should always be quick to reprimand us. We are your servants. We are here to serve your interests,” Motaung told the teams.
Others in the new FRAFA committee are Maokaneng Bontshetse who will deputise Motaung. Bontshetse is widely perceived to be a shrewd football politician and has in the past held the position of FRAFA chairperson. Former referee Meshack Medupi is the secretary for the region and will be deputised by Nehemiah Mfakose.
Lubu Matenge, who was suspended by the previous leadership on allegations of financial misconduct, was retained as treasurer. Thabo Nyambe and Samuel Olefile came in as additional members.
