A passerby alerted neighbours and the Police after discovering two dogs fighting over a black plastic bag which had a foetus in it.

At the scene, the Police had already arrived and tried to disperse curious onlookers who had flocked to the area behind Big 5 Lodge, as they wanted to view the gory scene.

One of the neighbours who asked to speak on condition of anonymity fearing victimisation told The Monitor that whilst he was in his yard, he heard a man shouting for help, “When I looked over across the road I saw the man trying to break the dogs apart.

I rushed over to assist and we managed to disperse the dogs.

Because they had torn the plastic a little, we saw little feet and that is when we decided to alert the Police.” The witness further stated that from the look of things, it seems the foetus was left across the street from his house probably early this morning. It looked like a fresh foetus because it was reddish and was still intact.

I suspect someone disposed of the foetus that morning and the stray dogs discovered it.” Reached for comment, Mogoditshane Police acting station commander, Assistant Superintendent Mompoloki Ramaphoi confirmed the incident. “We received the report Friday morning and we rushed over to the scene. Luckily the dogs that discovered the foetus stuffed in the plastic bag did not damage it.

It was still intact.” Quizzed further, the police boss said, “At the moment we cannot determine how old the foetus was, only the doctors can give us that report. We have no suspect as yet (as of Sunday press time).

We did have a few leads which did not materialise into anything. Should we find the person responsible, they would probably be charged with concealing a birth.”
