He was officiating at the launch of the programme last week. The event was part of the Tsholofelo Carnival that PNRB backs.

The carnival will be celebrated in the SPEDU region annually. “The entrepreneurship development programme seeks to develop and cultivate a business culture that will promote engaged and life-changing learnings that the participants will use to build up from here,” Mphathi said.

He added, “There are so many manufacturers in the Selebi-Phikwe region but because of lack of knowledge, lack of teachings such as this programme most are unknown, most just sell but are not a national product.

That is why we seek to bring forth a programme that will grow mindsets and build a changed attitude towards business growth and development.” Mphathi also stated that it is evident from the closure of BCL six years ago that there is a need to think beyond just mining to bring forth businesses and ideas that will mark the Phikwe region as a hub of integrated and advanced business and manufacturing. He emphasised that this can only be achieved through a multi-stakeholder approach.

Through the assistance of the Local Enterprise Authority, 50 young business owners participated in the two-day entrepreneurship development programme last week. The programme targets the youth sector, small medium enterprises, and informal businesses. Its key mandate will be capacity-building, dialogue on potential innovative ideas that can advance the economic resuscitation of the Selebi-Phikwe region and strengthening stakeholder collaborations for sustainable impact amongst others.

Amongst other activities at the carnival that took place from Tuesday last week until Saturday were an art show and exhibition, an Independence Day celebration carnival parade as well as the carnival music festival.
