The three accidents were confirmed to Mmegi by Mogoditshane Police acting station commander, Assistant Superintendent Mompoloki Ramaphoi who expressed worry over drunken driving and speeding in his area.

According to the Police, the first fatal accident involved a 28 year-old driver who suddenly lost control of his car and veered off the road . “The accident happened in Patakwe along the Kopong road on Saturday around 3.30 PM. The driver lost control of the car. He died later at the hospital on the same day ,”the police said.

In another fatal accident, a 50-year-old man died on the spot after being knocked down by a speeding car late Sunday night. According to witnesses the man was crossing the road when the car came out of nowhere and killed him on the spot. The accident was so bad that the car dismembered the man, throwing his leg on the other side of the road and the rest of his body on another.

“We detained the driver overnight because we had suspicions that he may have been driving under the influence,” Ramaphoi said. The 50-year-old Molepolole man died on the spot.

In another horrific accident a stone throw away from the Sunday night incident, a 15 year old was also hit by a speeding car.

The accident took place early Sunday morning. “She suffered a serious fracture on her leg from being knocked down by the car. She is currently hospitalized”

The Police have since expressed concern over speeding and drunken driving. Ramaphoi advised against such adding that there are dire consequences of speeding and drunken driving.

“Should one be charged, they are likely to be charged with causing death by drunken driving and the sentence is heavy. I would strongly like to urge drivers to desist from such,” The Police boss added.
