It was an easy walk in the park for Police as they edged their cross town rivals, BDF IX, 9-0.

The final was played yesterday at the National Diamond. By the bottom two of the game, Police led 8-0 with Kagiso Tinah going over the park. When the game reached top three, Ditau extended the lead to 9-0. BDF IX had no answers to the questions posed by Police.

Police were heavy-handed against their opponents on the road to the final beating Vikings 5-0, Carats 9-2 and Scramblers 8-0. They punished BDF when they met on Thursday night with a convincing 14-1. Police also outclassed their opponents the entire tournament that started on Thursday.

BDF IX settled for silver medal while Vikings continued with their bronze medal haul.

Police women have won everything that was brought before them except Phikwe Extravaganza where they settled for silver. The side started their journey in May when they won the BSA return to play mini league receiving P15,000 and gold medals.

Team manager, Diketso Gaborone told Sport Monitor that BDF IX performance was nowhere close to his charges. “This is a moment where we feel we did what we needed to do. We have built very competitive teams on our ladies and men’s teams.

For now we cannot say we are unstoppable but both teams are in their best shape ever, we want to win everything,” he said. Gaborone said they knew that all the teams are targeting Police looking at the performance at the moment.

“Every team wants to beat Police IX and it is something we are working on every time we go for training. We try as much to train our players on mental strength, not to be easily intimidated by their opponents. We are working on each part of the body to keep them focused,” Gaborone said. The champions walked P20, 000 richer, got gold medals and a trophy.

BDF walked all the way to SSKB camp in Mogoditshane with P15,000. Vikings received P10,000 for their position three finish. There was cash prize set aside for position four up to position eight. The same amount applied to the men’s teams. Eight men and eight women clubs competed in the Independence tournament.
