The coalition kickstarted the process to review its constitution early this month after the arrival of the Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF).

Streams tasked with executing drafts are made up of members from the Botswana People’s Party (BPP), Botswana National Front (BNF), and the UDC newcomers BPF. Each party has sent two representatives. The Botswana Congress Party (BCP) is not participating in the process since the suspension of its leaders, president Dumelang Saleshando and secretary-general Goretetse Kekgonegile.

“These streams have been established and are hard at work. We remain very hopeful that they will meet the deadline,” UDC spokesperson Moeti Mohwasa told Mmegi on Thursday.

Mohwasa said that another stream has been working on the guidelines and principles of ward allocations. Talks on ward allocations and constituencies are expected to commence immediately after the release of the delimitation commission. The deadline for the submission of guidelines and principles is also on Monday.

“There has not been any request [affecting] the deadline for all the submissions. That is why I remain very optimistic that the respective streams will make timely submissions,” Mohwasa added.

Mohwasa said that a draft programme of action on the streams making submissions would be presented to the coalition's National Executive Committee on October 5.
