FRANCISTOWN: The accident happened when a vehicle carrying members of Mosetse Football Club (MSC) overturned. Ncenga was amongst people who sustained serious injuries and spent some time at Nyangabwe Referral Hospital (NRH).

This week, Ncenga said he is optimistic that he will make full recovery. Ncenga sustained injuries on his back, head, and right leg. He is still struggling to walk because of the injury. “I have made good progress in terms of my recovery. I am feeling better now. My focus is on attaining full recovery and leading a normal life again,” Ncenga said at a press conference to update the media on a charity tournament that will be held in his honour tomorrow in Mosetse.

In an interview after the press briefing, Ncenga said his long-term goal is to focus on his farming interest. He is currently an assistant coach at MFC. “Before I got involved in an accident, I had purchased some goats with a view of starting a farming project. The project is now on hold since I am injured. I have engaged the seller to keep the goats for me while I am still recuperating. Once I have fully recovered my priority will be to restart the project.” “Once I have fully recovered, I do not think that I will be that involved with football. I have done my part in football. I have had my good and bad moments. I now want to do something else.”

Meanwhile, eight teams will participate in a charity cup in honour of the former Rollers defender. The tournament was organised by Ncenga’s friends. Ncenga, who is a builder by profession, is currently unable to fend for himself as he has been incapacitated by injuries suffered in the accident. Addressing the media this week, the chairperson of the organising committee Ntshima Jimane said gate takings and other proceeds of the charity cup will be given to Ncenga.

He said that several companies such as Security Systems, Siku Farms, and Vula Tjose have contributed towards the event. He added that some of the proceeds from t-shirt sales will be given to Ncenga. “We still hope that more sponsors will come on board. We have shared sponsorship proposals with several people and companies, but they are yet to respond,” he said.

There will also be a match which will feature Ncenga’s former teammates at Rollers and Zebras. Among those who will feature are Michael Pepukani, Zacharia Muzadzi, Mompati Thuma, Maano Ditshupo, Alphonse Modisaotsile, Joel Mogorosi, and Terrence Mandaza. Ncenga also expressed gratitude to the organisers of the tournament saying that the gesture made him feel appreciated.
