The two teams met at the Stade de Martyrs (Martyrs Stadium) in Kinshasa, the Democratic Republic of Congo and the home side emerged as 3-1 winners on Sunday evening. AS Vita reached the second round on a 3-2 aggregate after GU won the first leg played in Gaborone in the previous weekend 1-0.

The game marked Moyagoleele’s return to Africa’s elite inter club competition after more than a decade. It proved the slim advantage for Moya goleele was not enough in Kinshasa.

GU met As Vita in front of a raucous near capacity crowd in the venue that can accommodate as many as 90,000 spectators. The local fans could only get a glimpse of the Reds on their gadgets with the games broadcasted live on social media platforms. It took the home side just nine minutes into the game to announce their intentions as Varel Rozan headed in a corner kick.

GU made it level at 1-1 when skipper, Mpho Kgaswane struck home from inside the box in the 25th minute. The home side resorted their lead 10 minutes later as Imana Lote met a cross to beat Goitseone Phoko for a goal.

It was a 2-1 lead for AS Vita at the break. GU tried to stage a comeback but the home side was too confident to allow any slip ups. With eight minutes to time, GU conceded a third goal from a free kick as the home side walked out with a confident 3-1 win.
