PR Girls Media, the organisers behind the Zambian polo-fashion event, hosted the seventh annual spectacle on September 3 under the theme ‘Emerald in a Zambian World’.
Pitse attended the event alongside various other popular celebrities who showcased some of the best designs the region has to offer. Others from local shores who attended include Charity Baaitse and Mothusi Lesolle. Pitse's outfit caused a stir on social media, with many people in Zambia against it.
Many accused Pitse of wearing a dress and considered it inappropriate, while others broached the subject of homosexuality. Reports from Zambia media outlets state that the former Zambian Ambassador to Ethiopia, Emmanuel Mwamba, also accused the event organisers of promoting gay rights, something that PR Girls Media denied. Speaking to Arts&Culture recently on the sidelines of the Tsholofelo Carnival press conference, Pitse said he was not bothered by the social media comments.
He denied that he wore a dress at the event and believes the whole thing was just blown out of proportion for nothing.
“The whole thing was actually just chaotic on social media. I wasn’t wearing a dress. It isn’t about sexuality. Zambia is a Christian country and the people who were saying those things are those that have closed minds,” he said.
Pitse explained that he just conformed to the theme of the event and went with what he felt comfortable in. Besides, Pitse said, he had a fantastic time at the event and he would be returning to Lusaka next year.
“It was a spectacle and great experience. I’m the first Motswana to emcee there and I have been invited for next year, so I’m going there again next year,” he added.
