Police are trying to piece together information to establish what the 17-year-old boy, who was an off-campus student, was doing in the campus that early in the morning.

Central Police Station commander, Superintendent Mothusi Phadi told The Monitor they received the report at around 4am on Saturday, then rushed to the university, and took the deceased to Princess Marina Hospital where the doctors certified the boy dead on arrival.

Phadi said investigations into the matter are ongoing to establish what really caused the student’s actions.

"Cases of students jumping off the roof and floors of the campus flats remain a concern hence pleading with learners to seek help when troubled and stop stressing their fellow learners and school management. In the past, we have lost lives, some sustained serious injuries, while others attempted to commit suicide by jumping from those flats,” Phadi said.
