Serowe rape incidents persist, police worry

Serowe Police Station commander, Superintendent Poloko Oteng said rape cases are a concern in his jurisdiction as they record three to four cases every week.
Oteng said they are currently investigating three rape cases that occurred last week in Mmashoro, Mogorosi and Tshimoyapula respectively. “We managed to arrest suspects in Mmashoro and Mogorosi rape cases and we have launched a manhunt to locate the Tshimoyapula rape suspect who is still at large,” he told The Monitor. “However, he is a known person and we are hopeful to arrest him soon.
The incident occurred last Tuesday night after the 29-year-old woman was attacked and raped while walking home alone at night.” Oteng stated that the manner and frequency at which rape incidents are escalating is worrisome, hence he pleaded with women to be cautious when in the company of strange (and estranged men), especially when alcohol consumption is involved.
