On the case, Sehithwa Police Station commander, Superintendent Nshaki Mabophiwa said they are investigating a rape incident that took place on Friday. The incident happened at night near bushes behind the bar.

According to Mabophiwa, the 27-year-old woman of Itsoseng ward was grooving at a local bar when she decided to go out to relieve herself at a nearby bush. “While she was urinating, a man attacked and threatened her using a knife.

The 24-year-old then dragged the woman at knifepoint to his house at Itsoseng ward,” he revealed. Mabophiwa stated that when they reached his house the suspect allegedly sexually assaulted the woman.

The station head narrated that after the suspect allegedly had his way with the woman he then released her. The victim reported the matter to the police and was taken to Letsholathebe Memorial Hospital for medical examination.

The suspect has since been arrested. Investigations are still at the initial stage as police are awaiting results from DNA samples collected and sent to the forensic lab. Mabophiwa said they are concerned about the growing trend of culprits who are targeting women at bars. He said this is not the first incident of this kind this year.

He indicated that two months ago they received a report of a similar incident at Toteng village. The Sehithwa's police boss stated that the woman was allegedly also raped when she stepped out of the bar to relieve herself. Therefore, he advised women to use bathrooms or lavatories and make sure to be in the company of friends even when they go into the bush.
