Letlhakane Police Station Commander, Superintendent Michael Maphephu said they are investigating a robbery in which three men robbed owners and workers of Mahube shop at knifepoint and made off with cash.

He said the incident occurred on Saturday around 8pm when the shop was closed. According to the Letlhakane police chief, the robbers made off with money from the cash register and grabbed valuables from some of the employees' bags. “We cannot quantify the stolen cash as the owners of the shop were still waiting for the fingerprints to be collected from the tills,” he said.

He said they suspect that the robbers ran away with a large amount of cash. Maphephu said after the robbers fled the scene, the witnesses gave chase to the suspects as they drove off in a Toyota Mac II.

Unfortunately whilst trying to escape, he added, the robbers crashed their getaway car into a tree and all its occupants fled. He said the inside of the car was covered in blood indicating that one of the occupants had sustained serious injuries. “We have found some documents in the car, which we suspect belong to some of the suspects.

Already it is suspected that two of the alleged robbers are from Matakane cattle post and Letlhakane, respectively,” Maphephu added. The suspects are still at large, therefore, he pleaded with the community to help the police with any information helpful to their investigation.
