When confirming the incident, Letlhakane Police Station commander, Superintendent Michael Maphephu said they are investigating a case of defilement in which the man allegedly violated the teenage boy from Shakawe village.

He said the relationship between the two began on July 10 following the duo meeting on Facebook. They dated online until August 10 when the boy visited the suspect’s rented place in Phase 1.

According to Maphephu, the 30-year-old took the teenager to Letlhakane with him, an area where he works, so that they cohabitate.

He stated that the suspect’s landlord took notice of the relationship between the two and then reported the matter to the police.

“In this matter, the landlord realised that there was something fishy going on when the duo had a fight,” he added.

The station head added the Gumare man was arrested on Thursday. “Samples were taken from the victim and we are still awaiting results from the lab,” the Letlhakane police boss said. Maphephu shared that this is the first incident of its kind in four years in their policing area. According to the senior cop, online dating is always a problem as people tend to portray what they are not.

He indicated that the suspect is still in police custody and will appear in court today (Monday).
