According to Maphephu, they arrested two Batswana men and a woman on Friday after they were found in possession of fake cash.

He said the three suspects, aged between 37 and 60, were arrested after a stop and search by on-duty police officers at Makoba gate.

The suspects are said to be from Serowe and Mahalapye respectively.

The Letlhakane police chief told The Monitor that the said the suspects were transporting a large stash of P200 fake notes.

He added: “I cannot share the accurate amount of the fake money, because some of the stash of fake money was still being processed as they were carrying the material together with the ink or dye used to make the counterfeit cash.” Maphephu suspected that with the three detained by the police it is a clear indication that fake money might be in circulation in their policing area.

The same counterfeit cash is used by the culprits to swindle people claiming that they can multiply their money.

Therefore, he urged people, especially the business community to be on the lookout for fake notes.

The trio is still in police custody and investigations on this matter are ongoing.
