Serowe Police Station commander, Superintendent Poloko Oteng told The Monitor the spike is therefore alarming.

He said his policing area is plagued by a high number of rape incidents stating that they recorded four rape cases just in the last week.

“These numbers are worrisome. We are investigating a case in which an 18-year-old girl, who had gone for entertainment at a local bar, was given a ride back home but instead the suspect drove to his place where on arrival he raped her. Investigations are ongoing to locate and arrest the suspect,” he said.

In another incident, Oteng revealed they are investigating another rape case in which a 63-year-old man at Mogadingwana ward in Motshegaletau raped a young woman, aged 21, recently.

He stated that the duo, who is from the same ward, had spent the night together drinking alcohol. Luckily, the suspect in the matter has been arrested and is currently cooperating with police investigations, Oteng said.

“In another case, a 30-year old woman of Masuku lands in the outskirts of Moiyabana was attacked by a known man residing in the same location when walking home from a bar,” he said.

“The suspect has been arrested and is currently helping police with investigations.”

In another matter, an 18-year-old girl of Mabolongwe ward in Malatswai was raped by a man who allegedly told the girl of his love interest in her at Makhimabedi ranch in the outskirts of Mabuo.

Oteng said investigations into the matter are ongoing to locate the suspect who is still at large.
