According to recent music stats of July 1-31, released by the Copyright Society of Botswana (COSBOTS), Charma Gal enjoyed the most airplay, followed by veteran Kwasa Kwasa artist Franco with Moreri Moroka completing the top three.

Born Magdelene Lesolebe, Charma Gal amassed 19,748 with Franco sitting at 17,923, while Moreri Moroka garnered 16,228 seconds of airtime.

Next is one iconic traditional group, Matsieng with 14,070, followed by Samantha Mogwe and Han-C with 13,932 and 13,633 seconds respectively.

Ndingo Johwa (13,524), Socca Moruakgomo (12,899), Lizibo (12,789) and Mpho Sebina (12,302) complete the top 10 most played artists lists.

Charma Gal unseats Han-C at the top who was the most played artists for the month of June. Notable from the top 10 list is Vee Mampeezy who is one of Botswana’s successful musicians. Vee Mampeezy releases music more frequently than any other artist on the list.

Another notable observation is that the numbers went down for the month under review compared to those of the previous month, with the highest number being 22,605 and the lowest 15,638 in June.

Interestingly, the stats also show the Botswana National Anthem, Fatshe Leno La Rona, as the most played song followed by Dato Seiko’s Phenyo Ke Yo, Ke Feletswe ke Tshepo by Ngombora Olopeng. Mpoledise by Khoisan, Colder than Water by Team Distant, Thobane by Dr Vom, Transition (Samantha Mogwe), Ga Ke Lesole (Socca Moruakgomo), Kene Ndili Nlandalume (Isaac Maleyi) and Malome by Bakang Lenyaola completes the Top 10 most played songs.

As part of its efforts to become more transparent, COSBOTS has been releasing music statistics monthly.

COSBOTS is mandated to among others license and collect royalties from users of copyright/protected works and distribute to copyright owners. The entity has in the past clashed with artists for alleged mismanagement of royalty funds collected from radio stations and events.
