A passerby walking home from the bar reported the matter to the neighbours and the police when they saw the burning house.

At the time of the incident, the house was unoccupied as its owner, a soldier, lives in Thebephatshwa, according to the police investigating the matter. Thebephatshwa is a military base near Molepolole.

Shoshong Police Station’s assistant commander, Assistant Superintendent George Simataa Mabuta said the cost of the damage has not yet been established and there was neither human loss nor injury.

He stated that by the time the fire department arrived in Shoshong from Mahalapye, the house had burnt to ashes.

“We have established that its owners reside in Thebephatshwa and his wife had been visiting for the weekend before the fire. Before departing, the wife told the police that she had tried to switch on the electricity but it tripped off. Investigations are ongoing to establish if it was an electrical fault or not,” he said.
