He told members to be cautious of others who have not been active in the party since the 2019 general elections and want to return to the BDP to position themselves for positions.

Phane was welcoming members to his region and giving them the state of the party at the official opening of the BDP’s youth congress.

He said in the 2019 general elections, they lost three constituencies to opposition parties since some members of the ruling party were de-campaigning their own.

“The BDP needs to be careful with some of the members who come back to our party to immediately seek positions in the central committee. One wonders if those people are coming back to build or destroy. We are saying this, because of what happened in the 2019 general elections since they helped opposition parties win some of our constituencies,” he said.

“The members need to be vigilant with such kinds of people and even when they vote. I am saying this because some of the delegates for the Tsabong congress are here. As BDP members, we need to be united and strong so that we can win the coming elections. The reason why our structures are still intact is that the President and his Vice President stood with us during difficult times.”

When stressing his point in vernicular, Phane said: “Tlhopho ke kago eseng phatlhalalo.” He, however, told the party leadership that the BDP spirit still exists in the area despite having lost in the last elections.

Furthermore, he urged the members to support President Mokgweetsi Masisi and Vice President Slumber Tsogwane as they want to build a united party.

He also asked members to support the Vice President in the coming Tsabong elective congress, which will be held from the 27th to the 29th of August 2022
