Matsheka, the former Finance minister, was among three prominent individuals arrested this week by the DIS. Others are Peleng East councillor, Ontiretse Mosimanewamacha and businessman, Thuso Mantsi, who were arrested following speculation that they are being questioned in connection with the death of primary school pupil, Tlotso Karema.

By yesterday evening, Bayford was yet to know what his client was being held for at the notorious DIS cells in Sebele, just outside the capital city, Gaborone. As it is, the process of taking the matter to court, according to Bayford, has commenced. He was not at liberty to say anything yet but confirmed having been instructed by Matsheka to act.

DIS Sebele cells are where Serowe South Member of Parliament, Tshekedi Khama and his family members were recently taken before they crossed to neighbouring South Africa where they are currently in self-imposed exile. Tshekedi’s wife, Thea was left seething in anger following the period spent in detention at Sebele saying that she was abused at the hands of the DIS.

Speculation at the time was that the Khamas were questioned in connection with several corruption allegations and their senior brother, former president Ian Khama’s alleged possession of weapons of war.
