Teen arraigned for defilement

The teen appeared before Magistrate Game Mooketsi for arraignment on Friday. According to court documents, the boy who is allegedly defiled the 16-year-old girl at Tati Siding on or about July 14.

It is alleged that the matter was reported to the police by the girl’s parents after she went missing for a long while. Moreover, it was reported that at the time the teenage girl went missing, she was staying with a teen boy whom she claimed was her boyfriend. In her police statement, the teenage girl allegedly said that she had been dating the teenage boy since when she was 14-years-old, which meant the he would have been 15-years-old at the time.

The accused teen was charged with two counts of defilement and entering Botswana through an ungazetted point of entry respectively. Magistrate Mooketsi then moved the case to the chamber as the teenage boy is still a minor given that the alleged age he provided is correct.

She said that it was very important for law enforcement to establish the boy’s age. Mooketsi ordered that the 17-year-old boy be taken to Moshupa Boy’s Prison whilst waiting for the social worker's report.
