Kgosi faces corruption charges

Kgosi appeared before Village Magistrate’s Court this morning and he was granted a bail of P5, 000.

According to the charge sheet, Kgosi is charged with a count of corruption by a public officer contrary to section 29 (1) as read with section 42 of the Corruption and Economic Crime Act.

Particulars of the offence are that the accused person, Kgosi then employed in the public service as Directorate of Intelligence and Security (DIS) director general indirectly, "accepted for himself the sum of P687, 281.29 from Vlatacom D.O.O as valuable consideration to influence in recommending that PPADB to appoint the same company to get the tender to supply among other things Identity card protection to the spy unit."

“He indirectly accepted for himself the funds from the company to influence PPADB sanction direct appointment of Vlatacom D.O.O to provide country- wide communication infrastructure, supply of electronic ID card protection system and supply of AFIS system, to the DIS, a public body which was something the accused person was concerned in, in his capacity as a Public Officer,” reads the charge sheet.

Meanwhile, prior to the arraignment, DPP director Stephen Tiroyakgosi had on July 6, 2022 made notice to Kgosi that he intended to indict him for trial before the High Court on the charge of corruption by a public officer.

“I, Stephen Basi Tiroyakgosi, the director of DPP do hereby consent to the prosecution of Colonel Isaac Seabelo Kgosi for the offence of corruption by a public office as of the Corruption and Economic Crime Act, laws of Botswana,” reads the notice.
