Mushrooming of shebeens worry Mochudi police

Mochudi police station commander, superintendent Smash Mokoba said they have arrested and charged six people for operating illegal shebeens in Mochudi this past weekend.
Mokoba said the operators who do not comply with liquor trading hours, were charged a fine of P1,000 and their alcohol was confiscated by the police. “Crimes are committed at these shebeens late at night after the stipulated operating times. We have since established that shebeens fuel violent and serious crimes like rape, murder among others.
For a while now we have been receiving reports of conflicts that usually led to fights and at times rape incidents that started while people were entertaining themselves drinking alcohol at these shebeens,” he said. Mokoba further stated that acting under the influence of alcohol, elbow-benders have the tendency of fighting over petty issues that could have been resolved verbally.
