Through the MoU, the two entities have committed to research and development toward supporting the technological needs of Botswana in, among others, the private sector digitalization drive, capacity-building initiatives, and mainstreaming of private sector business development issues.

BDIH acting CEO, Tshepo Tsheko said the MOU is long overdue and both parties are committed to implementing the activities of the partnership.

“BDIH is committed to working on challenge-driven projects to enhance collaboration and the success of innovative ideas. Through the digitalization of Botswana-bred businesses, we aim to improve our national cybersecurity agenda so that this is led by Botswana experts who can protect businesses in Botswana,” he said. As Botswana moves towards a knowledge-based economy backed by a robust private sector, this partnership illustrates BDIH’s vision at work; to foster technology and innovation-led ecosystem," Tsheko said. “The strength of our cybersecurity is imperative to realizing this vision and positioning Botswana’s private sector as trusted for foreign investment opportunities.

A strengthened cybersecurity agenda will also encourage growth in locally led and created companies operating in the diverse cyberspace and becoming key global players in spaces such as e-commerce, data collection and protection, and more,” he added.

On his part, Business Botswana CEO Norman Moleele said through the MoU, they hope to make the private sector the engine of economic growth in this country and working with BDIH brings us a step closer to ensuring that. “We will work with BDIH to provide a database of our members to work with BDIH to promote collaboration and promote digitalization,” he said.
