Mosope told The Monitor their objective is to ensure that they increase the numbers of BDP councillors or win all council seats in Gaborone.

“As the BDP, we can do all this if we are one and work together. Our mandate as the region is to get updates on our structures and also check if everything is done correctly. We are going to work hand-in-hand with the five constituency branches to ensure that party structures are active,” he said. “The key issue that is ahead of us is the membership drive increase. For us to achieve membership drive [results we want], we need to have a strong team from both branches and dedicated members who have a desire to see their party growing.”

He added their task is to start the campaigns now so that they sensitise people about general elections and the importance of voting.

In addition, Mosope said Gaborone is not easy, unlike other areas, as it has its challenges and that is why it is important for them to start campaigns early and to check each constituency’s database to locate where some of their members are.

On another issue, he said it is also important for them to start political education and fundraising activities for a robust 2024 campaign.

Mosope added that they want to ensure that structures are functional and deliver on their mandate as set by the BDP manifesto to keep moving Botswana forward.

While he emphasised that there is peace and unity in the constituencies, The Monitor, however, notes there are disputes in the Gaborone Bonnington South constituency that the new regional committee will have to resolve.
