This came about after Sejoe was said to owe Esther Mfolwe. Sejoe is supposed to be running for the position of deputy secretary for the Gaborone regional committee of the party under a team called #realignment of Gaborone region led by Lebogang Mosope. Sejoe is haunted by the debt that he has paid for in February 2022 through Duma Boko law firm.

However, Mmegi has learnt that Sejoe suspects that the incident might be a political witch hunt by some members of the party who do not want to be challenged at the regional level on Saturday.

The latest development forced the councillor to immediately file opposing papers through his attorneys Dow & Associates as an urgent matter at the Lobatse High Court to ward off the sheriffs from putting him behind bars.

The court order reads; “the defendant be committed to civil imprisonment for a period of 60 days for a debt amount of P3,200 and which amount has attracted legal costs amounting to P16,498.20 from 2012 to 2018, totalling P48,498.00 (balance P44,198.00), “The execution of the civil imprisonment shall be suspended on condition of monthly payments of P300 with immediate effect until and final liquidation is achieved.” Sejoe’s attorney Tumisang Dow confirmed that his client had long cleared the debt and they will oppose the warrant adding that they are shocked by the latest developments.

On the other hand, the BDP spokesperson Kagelelo Kentse said this is a personal matter and has nothing to do with the party. “We all have debts but we do encourage members to live within their names. We obviously don’t have much details of the issue as it’s a personal matter,” Kentse said. Sejoe is also a member of the BDP Political Education and Elections Committee (PEEC).
