The fatal accident took place along the A1 Highway on June 17 at around 7:30pm just opposite Precious Filling Station.

According to Molapisi, they have not charged anyone since they are still investigating the matter.

He added that they have not taken statements from other victims as they are currently hospitalised.

“So far three people including the police officers are still hospitalised at the moment. We need their statements and action will be taken afterwards,” said Molapisi.

Earlier after the fatal crash, Molapisi told this publication that the accident involved two police officers who were using an official car and four other individuals travelling in a private car (Toyota Vits). “So far, we have lost two lives, a woman and man from the private car aged 50 and 57 years respectively. The police officers and other passengers are still hospitalised at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital,” he said.

He added that the deceased persons are the driver of the private car and the passenger who was sitting in the front. The ages of all the passengers involved in the fatal accident range from four to 57 years.

“.....all we know is that the other car was coming from the filling station and collided with the other upon joining the A1 road. We do not know what exactly transpired resulting in the collision,” he said.

When asked if one of the drivers was intoxicated at the time of the fatal accident or not, Molapisi said investigations were still at an initial stage and ongoing.
