The annual international Fete De La Musique festival hosted by the Alliance Française Gaborone marked its return this past Saturday at Thapong Visual Arts Centre, and attracted an impressive crowd.

Held in collaboration with the No. 1 Ladies Coffee House, the festival promised to give patrons the kind of excitement associated with a show of its stature, but many left the place disappointed when the festival was halted just as things were getting heated.

The show was scheduled to kick off at 3pm until late, but was stopped at 9pm allegedly because there were issues with the permit for the event.

In fact, the word disappointment runs short of describing the people’s emotions who had braved the cold night as they walked out following the announcement by the MC that the show would not continue.

It was just a few minutes after the MC had gotten the crowd all hyped up in anticipation of performances from their favourite big names such as Rhumba icon Alfredo Mos & Les Africa Sounds alongside Kapenda Katuta, Dr Ed and his band.

The crowd had enjoyed performances by Regent Hill students, Mogwana Traditioonal Group, Koma Afrobeat live, Josh JTG Palmer, King Tux as well as some smooth traditional jazz by Hydro Molefe. All of these artistes had warmed the stage up nicely for the much-fancied acts to take the night away and give patrons a treat.

They were three acts on the line up that included Dr Ed, Kapenda Katuta, Alfredo Mos and Les Africa who were yet to when the show was stopped.

“We can have our drinks at our usual joints but tonight we wanted to dance. We remained in this cold to see Kapenda Katuta and Alfredo Mos. We can’t stay,” said one of the patrons as he left the venue.

While many people left the place when the sound was cut off, a few remained behind and continued to enjoy their beverages and food.
