Mmegi Sport has established that the group has committed to raise over P1 million as an initial investment to run the club.

The group is said to have pledged to take over the running of the club regardless of whether it retains its status in the Debswana First Division North (FDN) or drops to the regional league.

TAFIC initially looked destined for the Division One league. However, the ascension of Eleven Angels to the Premier League has given Matjimenyenga boys another chance for survival.

They will now have to meet two Division One teams from the Francistown Regional Football Association and Chobe region in a bid to save their status in the league. Mmegi Sport has established that the club executive will table plans to rope in investors at the club’s annual general meeting at the beginning of July. Details of the proposal are expected to be shared at the meeting.

The supporters are tipped to embrace the idea to give the club to investors. Yesterday, TAFIC vice-chairperson, Foster Machola confirmed that the club has entered into talks with some investors who want to assist to revive the fortunes of the club.

He, however, declined to share finer details saying that it was still premature. “The club executive is meeting supporters on July 2 where a proposal from investors that I cannot name for now, will be discussed. Supporters will have the liberty to endorse or shun the proposal because they are the main custodians of the club,” Machola said. However, Nawa denied reports that he is leading a group of investors who want to take over the running of the club. “There are several people who have approached me asking me if I am not interested in running the club. They were just making inquiries. At the moment I am not interested. I am even yet to consult my family,” Nawa said.

“The people who want to see me back are those who know what I have done for the club in the past and what I am capable of. What I must emphasise is that I am a staunch TAFIC supporter,” he added. Meanwhile, the club recently appointed Carlos Motaung as its interim chairperson to assist spearhead its fight for survival.

Motaung served as the club chairman a few years ago when it was doing relatively well. He has been credited with recruiting renowned coach, Phillimon Makhwengwe to lead the team on an interim basis until the end of the play-offs.
