Serame, who was elected into the office over the weekend, says her committee will have to come up with strategies that could help women win both primary and general elections in upcoming polls.

She won the committee’s top seat by 370 votes after battling it out for the position with Sethu Maano-Gabanakgosi and Gosego Mmolawa, who got 117 and 13 votes respectively.

Serame’s team, led by former Women’s Wing chairperson and newly elected deputy chair, Veronica Lesole, swept all the seats.

One of her goals is to ensure that women become stronger in the party and their voice is heard.

“Our aim is also to assist the leadership by ensuring that the party is strong and united. We have to recruit new members and also talk to our members who are not active to start working for the party.

I will work hand-in-hand with different Cabinet ministers to ensure that some policies that women have long been crying about are re-looked into and bring some new policies that could help to empower women,” she said.

“It is time we speak with one voice, especially on issues of defilement, rape, and gender-based violence amongst others. We must advance women's issues even internationally.”

She also said it is time some programmes that were introduced as a way of helping women are reviewed to see or check if they are still relevant or not and it will help if they are tabled before Parliament or Cabinet.

Serame explained that one of the roles that her committee will perform is to develop some women to be leaders of tomorrow, as she believes that it is a skill that some need.

She said they could achieve that if they work with the international community. The new committee consists of the chairperson, Serame, vice-chairperson, Lesole, secretary, Neo Maruapula, vice-secretary, Tiny Dinoko, treasurer, Orefitlhetse Masire, and vice-treasurer, Talita Monnakgotla. Serame is also the Minister of Finance.
