In the North, Boteti River Girls were walloped by TASC 10-88. The visiting Nico United also received a baptism of fire from Thunderbolts with a score of 34-54.

In the South, Police men kicked off their campaign by beating their cross-town rivals, Notwane 33-31.

Police started showing their intentions from the first whistle, claiming the first quarter 9-5. Police went on to win the second quarter 13-18 and extended the lead by winning the last quarter 19-24.

In the women’s game, BDF Cats were strong for Vipers winning the game 62-53. However, Vipers drew first blood winning the first quarter 14-12. Cats came back to claim the second quarter 25-34.

The army side were unstoppable in the third quarter beating their opponents 36-51. Southern Zone public relations officer (PRO), Phenyo Raphofu told Sport Monitor that the games went according to plan. “Before the festivities of the league began, we had men and women national teams playing against each other as you know we launched the World Netball Cup Legacy with Netball South Africa on Friday.

The appointed coach was there to monitor the women’s team,” he said. Raphofu also said the coach will be preparing Botswana national team for the upcoming Netball World Cup qualifiers that are penciled for Cape Town. He said the coach is part of the Legacy project. Netball World Cup 2023 will be hosted by Cape Town next year.
