The award applauds African women who inspire confidence through rewriting the rules of the game as well as female leaders who campaign for positive change and are committed to economic and social transformation on the continent. Organisers of the award said these are women who have challenged the norm to bring about change and have created a new dialogue that will allow future generations to live in a better and more equal world.

“As Africa looks to recover from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is critical that we build a better future – one where everyone is included,” said Ebehijie Momoh, Mastercard’s West Africa country manager, adding that it was important to recognise women like Lahri.

Lahri has been commended for chartering into a terrain that few women in the continent have delved into and making remarkable changes in the leadership role she plays daily as the leader of Lucara’s local diamond operations. Lahri, who holds a Master in Strategic Management degree, was the first woman in Botswana to become the managing director (MD) of a mine when she rose to the echelons of power at Lucara in 2018.

The organisers of the award said women like Lahri continue to pave way for a more inclusive nation that allows both genders to thrive in any area of their interest.

The MD has also proven to society that women have the ability and capability to lead and become agents of change in any space they enter.

“The award is a testament to her leadership skills that she has used to transform Lucara into one of the most admired diamond companies in the world,” the organisers stated.
