Aiming to conquer the decks

Born Monkgolodi Moswetsi, Le Spooner DJ from Molepolole has been spinning the decks since 2001, but he is now aiming to conquer the desks and be counted.
The 34-year-old, who specialises in Deep & Soulful House, says although it has been a rough road, he is proud of what he has achieved over the years and ready to come out of his shell and make it big. Le Spooner DJ’s music journey is traced back to 2001 when he was part of a group called Nuff Respect Crew. In an interview with Arts & Culture, Le Spooner DJ said it’s been quite a journey of experience, which he believes has prepared him for his next stage of his career as he wants to go international. “I have played on radio stations like Yarona FM, Gabz Fm and RB2. I have also been booked to play at big festivals such as the Home Coming Concert, Moleps Festival, Ko Gamaila Fest, Mascom Derby, Mochudi Out Door Experience, No Haftime Party, to name but a few,” he said.
He stated that while it has been tough, he is thankful that he has been able to perform across borders under Ecstasy Communications stable in places like Johannesburg, Midrand, Kimberley, Soweto, Orange Farm (Vaal), Vryburg and Lesotho. “I must admit, I started off as a DJ from humble beginnings. Just like a seed, I germinated, spreading my wings further into local radio stations.
You know what they say, if your dreams don't scare you; then they are not big enough. My ambition as a DJ is to make my name a big brand internationally. To be recognised worldwide and have people dancing, unwinding to my mixes,” he added. He said part of that growth involves owning a record label, which he will use to nurture upcoming talent, hence growing the local music industry even further. Le Spooner DJ also said he also intends to start recording and releasing his own music.
He said all the motivation and inspiration comes down to sharing the stage with big name DJs such as Black Coffee, DJ Fresh, Prince KB among others. Le Spooner DJ said while the primary aim is to entertain, he also believes his role as a DJ is to motivate the general public especially the youth through music, and elevate those that feel down to be uplifted by the sound of his music and take them away from drugs and other bad habits. “I want to be seen as the reason people feel better about themselves because music is a powerful tool.
The issue is exposure. I have always had a passion to play to inspire and be heard playing alongside certain DJs has given me that opportunity and that’s all I needed. I stayed patient and focused, now its time for the world to recognise the ability I have,” he said.
