He said COVID-19 pandemic numbers at their hospital have tripled in the last two weeks. At first, he said they have seen five to 10 cases in two weeks but now the cases have risen to 67.

“This is very worrisome. The numbers for COVID-19 cases have started to increase in the hospital for both patients coming for admission and our staff members, which we are concerned about as management. We check patients first before we admit them and our staff has monthly screen checkups for COVID-19,” Dr Goepamang told The Monitor on Saturday.

“The number of COVID-19 admitted patients have increased from 10 cases [fortnightly] to 31 cases now. It must be noted that these patients had other diseases that they were diagnosed with and they tested positive after being checked for COVID-19. The cases were not COVID-19 referrals. In the last two weeks, we only registered two cases of COVID-19-related deaths.”

He explained that the patients are not critically ill since they were not admitted for COVID-19 complications but for different diseases. However, he said the hospital will keep on reviewing the issue of visits by patients’ relatives as it had been the case weekly.

“Seemo sa mogare ke sone se se tla laolang gore re dire jang rele management wa sepatela. Gompieno kopo ke gore batho botlhe ba ipabalele. Mme ga re kake ra batla batho ba tlela balwetse ba rona mogare,” Dr Goepamang added.

He also pleaded with the public to take the COVID-19 vaccination and for those who have not taken a booster to do so.

Dr Goepamang said the public must remember what had happened last year and requested that the country should not find itself having to experience the same situation.

According to COVID-19 updates for June 7, the new cases stood at 1,627, active cases at 2,843, and new deaths recorded from May 29 to June 1 were three while the fully vaccinated population stands at 1,512,567.
