Letlhakane Police Station commander, Michael Maphephu confirmed yesterday that they have received a report about a trainee traditional doctor.

The incident happened in the wee hours of June 5 at Phase 1 in Letlhakane. He added that the man allegedly murdered his girlfriend after a heated argument.

The station commander shared that an eyewitness told the police that the suspect and his girlfriend started quarrelling near a football pitch.

“The eyewitness who stays just a stone's thrown away from the football pitch area heard the deceased calling for help as his boyfriend was assaulting her. She then rushed to them in order to assist her. Upon arrival, she found the woman lying down motionless. Together with the suspect they fetched water and splashed it on her and she regained consciousness,” Letlhakane police chief added.

He further said that the eyewitness then took the woman to her room where the suspect also went in and slept. He mentioned that when the eyewitness woke up at around 8am she realised that the victim was motionless with her face swollen and blood stains on her mouth.

The 40-year-old woman was then taken to the hospital where she was certified dead.

Maphephu pleaded with the community to help with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect.

Meanwhile, Maphephu said that Letlhakane police have received a report that a 25-year-old woman from the same village was found by the police lying in a pool of blood.

The second incident took place on May 6 at Metsiaela ward. He stated that the victim had multiple stab wounds all over her body. A 23-year-old man suspected to be her boyfriend, also from Metsiaela, has been arrested and the victim is currently fighting for her life at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital.
