The competitions started from way back in Season 1 in 2017, and after their first success, the organisers started hosting the competitions regularly. The Friday launch was graced by dignitaries such as Kgosi Patricia Radipadi from Bontleng, Benjamin Kelepang Senior Administration Officer, Taolo Moshaga from Global Transformation Networks, Keotshepile Motseonageng also known as Berry Heart as well as Paxton Ntsie. During the launch, the TV show went down the memory lane and shared with people how the gospel-singing competitions came about.

Ntsie spoke about how the show began. He highlighted that him and Taolo Moshaga started this as a charity, and that they only just wanted to build a safe community for the youngsters and take them off the streets. Ntsie continued to point out that one Malakia Maseko then approached them and initiated that they do start up with the competitions.

That marked the beginning of the Season 1 singing gospel competitions, which started off very well but towards the end, they encountered a hiccup towards the grand finale when the Travel Lodge cancelled on them, and they had to seek for an alternative location at last minute for the grand finale, and Fairgrounds Holdings did come in handy for them as they did provide the venue for the grand finale.

The Melody Gospel TV Show went on to have Season 2, and 3 where they managed to pull off some sponsorship deals with the likes of Botswana Sectors of Educators Trade Union (BOSETU), Gaborone University College of Law and Professional Studies (GUC), Tlotlo, and Berry Heart. Some of these sponsors are still sponsoring Season 4 such as Berry Heart and GUC together with Botswana Television and Fairgrounds Holdings as the main sponsor competition, Ntsie said. Meanwhile, Berry Heart talked about how she is the sponsor for these gospel singing competitions for the second time in a row now. She pointed out that she took this as an opportunity to do something positive for the youth, as she saw how these competitions could have a huge positive impact on the lives of the youngsters and that they do come with spiritual mentorship, which is good. So, her mandate when joining this as a sponsor was to make it all possible for the youngsters out there who have huge dreams about their singing talents. Berry Heart continued to point out that she does also help with wardrobe and sometimes does help with their online marketing.

The Melody Gospel TV Show will host its first Season 4 auditions in Francistown this coming Saturday starting at 10am before they move to Gaborone seven days later.
