Five perish in road mishap

Four of the deceased, three men and a woman who were in a Toyota Sprinter burnt beyond recognition after their car collided with a Toyota Corolla. Confirming the fatal accident to Mmegi, No: 14 district traffic officer, Superintendent Selogilwe Sefawe said the Toyota Corolla vehicle had two people on board, the driver and a passenger who lost her life on the spot.
“The Toyota Corolla driver who sustained serious injuries was in the company of a 64-year-old female passenger who died on the spot. Investigations are ongoing to establish the identity of the four people who were travelling in a Toyota sprinter that caught fire during the accident and burnt beyond recognition,” Sefawe said.
Asked what really caused the head-on collision, Sefawe said it looks like the Toyota sprinter driver was trying to overtake resulting in the head-on collision. He said they have observed that majority of motorists like to drive at an excessive speed unnecessarily. “We have observed that majority of drivers also have a tendency of overtaking at wrong places, some even overtake where there is a traffic congestion and end up causing accidents,” Sefawe said.
