Tlokweng police confiscate smuggled vegetables

On Saturday, Tlokweng police through their ongoing operation to intercept those who smuggle vegetables into the country, arrested seven people at the Tlokweng border region carrying boxes of fruits and vegetables. Officer commanding, senior superintendent Theriso Thatayotlhe said the seven people who had visited South Africa had hidden boxes of tomatoes, onions, beetroot, cabbage, sweet potatoes, oranges, avocado, and grapes in their luggage. “They vegetables that have been confiscated by the police and suspects were handed over to BURS (Botswana Unified Revenue Service) to proceed with the case. The illegal importation of vegetables remains a concern as we continue to arrest and confiscate vegetables from people trying to smuggle them into the country,” Thatayotlhe said.
