Standard Chartered delivers Champions League experience

The bank has been the Merseyside side’s main sponsor since 2010. Standard Chartered is entering the final year of sponsorship with Liverpool FC as the current four-year deal is to end in the 2022/2023 season. It was a cheerful mood on the night as the majority of the crowd at Sky View was rallying behind the Reds. The local fans were forced in to just over a half hour wait as kick off was delayed as fans in Paris struggled to enter the stadium. It was waiting worthwhile as the final match tie delivered the expected thrills as Liverpool proved to be a better side on the evening.

The Kop were, however, on numerous occasions denied a chance at goal as Madrid’s goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois proved to be the difference on the night. The Belgian goalkeeper pulled up a couple of saves with a man of the match performance to keep his side in the game. He thwarted efforts from forwards as Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane to keep his side in the tie. It was until the 59th minute of the match as Brazilian forward, Vinicous Junior gave Madrid the lead. The goal was the difference as the Spanish giants won a record of 14 UEFA Champions League titles. A moment of sorrow for the Kop at Sky View as their side became second best on the evening. Meanwhile, the fans were given an opportunity to win some hampers from Liverpool through the Standard Chartered Botswana affiliation.
