Matebele are enjoying a fairytale run in the Orange FA Cup after securing a place among the remaining four teams. The Kgatleng based side is the only team from the lower division still in contention in the FA Cup.

It was a David among Goliaths ahead of the semi-finals draw as Matebele were in the pick alongside Premier League sides Security Systems, BDF XI, and GU. In the draw conducted on Tuesday in Gaborone, the team was pitted against the defending champions, GU while Systems and BDF XI will fight for a place in the final in the other semi-final tie. The semi-final matches will be a double-header fixture to be played on June 11 at a venue to be announced. As the league football action ends tonight, the Botswana Football Association (BFA) competitions manager, Monnakgotla Mojaki said the two-week-long break has been reserved for the Zebras as the team begins its AFCON 2023 qualifiers adventure, away to Libya on June 1 before taking on Tunisia at home on June 5.

Thus far 44 games have been played and 86 different scorers have found the net 109 times in season three of the Orange FA Cup. Eleven Angels’ Monty Enosa leads the tournament’s top goal-scoring charts with five goals. In second place are Matebele’s Thatayaone Nkwapa and Mbonisi Ncube of BDF XI with four goals each. The trio of Kekaetswe Moloi, Thero Setsile (both GU), and Thato Ogopotse (Systems) is tied with three goals apiece. The final of the Orange FA Cup will be played at the National Stadium on June 18.
