The Botswana Police Service's (BPS) public relations officer, assistant commissioner Dipheko Motube revealed that four men were arrested on Friday after they were found in possession of a carcass of a calf suspected to have been stolen.

“The suspects aged between 23 and 57 were arrested at their home in Xere village where they had kept the carcass. In another case that was recorded on Saturday, three more suspects were arrested in Katia cattlepost on the outskirts of Kedia village suspected to have stolen a cow, which was left for dead on their farm with multiple wounds caused by a sharp instrument,” Motube said.

Motube revealed that the trio, aged between 19 and 62, was arrested at Kgaotse ward in Kedia and the cow was handed to its owner who positively identified it. He stated that it was established that the 62-year-old man was the former herder to the owner of the cow.

“The suspects are currently in police custody helping the police with investigations and are expected to appear before Letlhakane Magistrate's Court very soon. We are also investigating another case in which two suspected stolen cows were found dead and dumped with their brands and earmarks tampered with at Makhande cattlepost near Rakops,” Motube said.
