BACK IN THE BIG BOYS LEAGUE: Nico United

Majombolo, as Nico United are affectionately known to their legion of supporters, gained the promotion on Saturday after their 0-0 draw against Maun Terrors.

They became the Debswana First Division North league champions with three matches remaining. Despite the draw, Nico were done a huge favour when second placed Eleven Angels lost 1-0 to Chadibe FC on Saturday. Angels’ defeat now means they can only reach 41 points if they win all their remaining three matches.

Nico are already on 42 points with an incredible plus 18 goal difference. After failing to gain promotion last season, losing to Mogoditshane Fighters in the play-off, Nico this time around set an early pace and opened a gap. From 18 games, they lost only one, won 12 and drew six. They celebrated the milestone yesterday with a motorcade from Mmadinare junction on their way from Maun.

Eleven Angels on the other hand can only settle for a play-off position in which they will play runners up from the Debswana First Division South league.

They need two victories in the remaining fixtures to secure their place in the play-off. Meanwhile Maun Terrors’ draw against Nico United was not enough to save them from the relegation.

With three games remaining, Terrors can only reach 20 points if they win all their matches but fall short of surviving the axe.
