In an interview with Mmegi, spokesperson for the campaign team, Kaboyaone Sedimo said their team has not yet met and he hopes that by Monday, they will issue a statement regarding decisions made by the central committee.

“It must be clear that the BNF has its own tradition and culture that cannot be changed overnight by a group of people in a second. We will respond accordingly. I am not saying that we will go to court. Again it may depend on what the team decides. I believe the team will do what it believes is right for the team,” he said.

Molatlhegi will be contesting for the party presidency with Duma Boko in the upcoming party elective congress.

The central committee has resolved that going forward, no lobby group will be allowed to use party logos and symbols.

“And all the campaigns as it is the norm, are supposed to be internal and no member should be denied the right to campaign and lobby for support within the structures. No lobby group will be allowed to carry out media interviews. The Central Committee will also ensure that stern action is taken against those who attack other contestants, soil the name of the party and leak information to the media. Our aim as the central committee is to ensure that there is order, tolerance and mutual respect as we move towards the National Congress,” BNF secretary-general Moeti Mohwasa said on Tuesday when briefing the media.

He said the central committee takes a dim view of a number of incidents that have taken place lately.

In addition, he said some of the incidents tarnish the image of the party and if nothing is done to ensure that order and discipline reign in the party, then soon there will be no party to talk of.

Furthermore, the party secretary-general said it is appreciated that this is a season where people are now pushing hard to ensure that their lobbies prevail at the forthcoming congress. He said in doing so, there has to order.

Mohwasa added: “This tendency of attacking each other in the media is wrong and should not be condoned. Those that have availed themselves for consideration for election at the congress should be given the space to sell themselves freely. Attacking them is an attack on what the party stands for. Respect should be given to those who are in authority. Our members should acknowledge the obligations of office bearers to perform their functions unhindered. The continued abuse of the leadership must stop. An attack on an office bearer is an attack on the party.”

Meanwhile, on issues of suspension, he said the party central committee has also resolved that there be an engagement with the relevant structures regarding the suspended ones. Already two supporters of the Molatlhegi team have been suspended by party structures for misconduct. They are former Mogoditshane Member of Parliament Mokgweetsi Kgosipula and Sedimo.

Regarding the issue of youth elective congress postponement, the central committee resolved that it should be held on May 28, 2022 at Letlhakeng.

According to Mohwasa, the central committee had set up a task team to deal with any issues that may arise and ensure that they have a thriving youth league congress.

He said the team is led by the party chairperson, Abigail Mogalakwe. The other members are Mohwasa (secretary-genera, Nelson Ramaotwana (deputy secretary-general), Justin Hunyepa (information and publicity secretary), Tona Mooketsi (organising secretary) and an invitation was extended to the youth league president, Kago Mokotedi to join the team.

It has been resolved that the youth league central committee should deal with all matters including disputes that relate to the youth league within seven days after being notified of any. The party chairperson Mogalakwe-led task team will serve as an appellant body and it also has to resolve such appeals that lie within it within the specified time.
