CCA, BNPC sign MoU

Through the MoU, the two entities will share information on research findings that have a bearing on productivity and competitiveness, joint policy briefs and advocacy programmes about constraints on competition, and regional and international competitiveness.
Speaking at the signing ceremony this week, BNPC acting General Manager Teedzani Majaule said the organisation recognised the growing need to continuously engage the CCA as the main consumer protection agency in the economy.
“As the institution coordinating and analysing Botswana’s competitiveness through the World Economic Forum and Institute for Management Development, it is imperative that CCA collaborate with BNPC to improve the productivity and competitiveness ratings of Botswana in relation to the level of domestic competition,” he said.
For his part, CCA Legal and Enforcement director, Kesego Modongo said the joint efforts in undertaking research, capacity-building programmes and the general exchange of information will make a great impact on the economy.
“We as strategic partners are coming together and strengthening our research capacities,” he said. “We have similar goals and the signing of this MoU is built on activities that our respective organisations have been carrying out.”
Modongo further said the Global Competitiveness reports and findings by the World Bank have consistently shown that the level of competition in Botswana is very weak as shown by concentrated structures.
Through the MoU, the CCA and the BNPC will share information relating to studies and reports that have a bearing on competitiveness including productivity statistics reports as well as Global Competitiveness and Doing Business reports. The partnership will also coordinate the preparations for sector studies in areas of common interest to ensure extensive coverage of factors affecting competitiveness.
The parastatals will jointly fund projects of common interest, capacity-building areas of common interest as well as joint policy briefs and advocacy programmes about constraints on competition, regional, and international competitiveness.
