Reports from some villagers indicate that the man committed suicide after he sexually assaulted his stepdaughter.

According to the acting commander of Tutume Police Station Superintendent Lesego Kgosiemang, the man who allegedly killed himself by hanging was found by his concerned neighbours recently.

He said that the incident, which took place at Megwe ward, was reported to them on April 8 at around 1pm.

Kgosiemang stated that the deceased's neighbours were concerned after they did not see him the whole day as he was known for being active with his household activities.

He added: “Upon realising that the unemployed man was missing in action, they went straight to his house and knocked [on his door] yet no one responded. The same neighbours then forced entry into the house and found the man hanging from the roof.”

Tutume police's acting station commander further said that the deceased did not leave a suicide note.

“The body was taken for post-mortem to determine the cause of death. The results will prove if indeed the man killed himself or not,” he said.

When asked about the sexual assault allegation against the deceased by some villagers, Kgosiemang said that he was not aware of such a matter as they have not received any report of the sort.

He advised people to open up about their challenges, adding that ending one’s life should not be an option.
