Divisional traffic officer for South Central, assistant commissioner, Reginald Matlhaba said the first incident in which a 34-year-old woman, who was a passenger, died on the spot near Rasesa after the driver of the car she was travelling in lost control of the vehicle, hitting a tree on Wednesday night.

Matlhaba said the driver of the car escaped the accident with minor injuries. In another incident that occurred on Friday morning, a septuagenarian woman died on the spot after she was hit by a combi when trying to cross the road near a bus rank flyover.

“Accidents in general and those that involve pedestrians remain a concern because they (pedestrians) continue to lose their lives at the hands of impatient drivers and some pedestrians were left with permanent injuries that lead to disabilities. Drivers should know that they share the road with pedestrians and show them respect,” he said..
